Dairy Free Delicious

On May 12, 2009, remember it like it was yesterday; I discovered that I was lactose intolerant.  Crushing news for someone who loved cheese.  And I mean LOVED cheese, from stilton, to edam, to camembert and anything in between, 99% of the meals in my life contained cheese or some sort of dairy.

But from May 12th on, I really had to watch it, the effects were unbearable.  Stabbing cramps in my stomach, increased bowl movements, cystic acne, and severe RLS to name a few.  I knew it was time to give up the cheese.

Winterize Your Locks

I must admit, I don’t love the cold in Canada in the winter season, but I do love that the humidity is frozen, and that my flat-ironed hair lays flat!  But like the sunshine in the summer, I would imagine that the cold, the de-humidity, and the excess of flat ironing in the winter can also take it’s toll on one’s hair.  So I decided to ask an expert, how one would go about winterizing their hair?

Interview with Oribe.

Get a Scar Free Facelift

By the work of your own two hands, and a little time and patience you can lift your face without going under the knife, or spending more than $150.00, seriously!  I have been experimenting with facial exercises for the last five years, but have refrained in the last six months out of sheer laziness.  And I am noticing that my face is not quite the same.  For a brief period of time when I was really into them, I actually had cheekbones that were not sculpted by Mac, along with a super tight jaw line, and a forehead that just would not crease with expression.

Go Global

This season my favourite theme from HomeSense is Global Splendor; I must say I love every single piece in the room.  But as you all know, sometimes you cannot always get what you are looking for in your neighborhood store.

When I am decorating or prop styling on a budget, HomeSense (HS) is my first stop. Actually stops one, two, and three are HS, 1. HS: Queensway, 2. HS: Heartland, 3.  HS: Vaughn Mills.    To the average person this might seem a little strange, but when I am looking for something very specific I like to hit all three locations, because each market shops for a different style, so if I can’t find what I am looking for at HomeSense Queensway (which is pillaged by other stylists on the daily) I can usually find it at Heartland, or Vaughn.

LuvZ

LuvZ: Deborah Lippmann nail polish.  A. Because it doesn’t have any of the bad stuff like formaldehyde or toluene in it.  B. Because she makes it in fashion forward and funky colours.  And C.  Because a manicure lasts forever!  This holiday season Ruby Red Slippers is going to be the HOTTEST colour available.  Pick yours up at Donato Salon & Spa.

LuvZ: Old Navy scarves! Every time I walk into their showroom, I am in aw at how many I want to take home with me.  For only $15 it’s an easy update for any outfit.  This scarf is so A StyleZ, with the muted greys, and the pop of colour.

LuvZ: Nadege Macarons. O-M-G! Hands-down the best macarons this side of the Atlantic. Nadege uses a traditional recipe to create the pretty little pillows in the style of the original French macaron, a la Paris!

LuvZ: Also OMG worthy, Marc Jacobs‘ new solid perfume accessories .  I adore the oversized daisy enamel ring; you would never know it hid a solid scent inside.  But, I am dying over the Lola flower bracelet.  Great to wear as suggested, or clip it onto your purse zipper to ad some glam, and a waft of the sweet floral scent every time you open or close your purse. Available at Holt Renfrew.

LuvZ: Stila’s new Indian inspired Kajal eyeliner. The texture makes it so easy to get that smudgy, smokey look.    I was turned onto their products by Cheryl Gushue a few years ago, and have never looked back.

Note: Remember, it’s always the best to use a brush when opting for a smudgy look, and you’ll use less product! Buy it at Shopper’s Drug Mart Beauty Boutique.

LuvZ: This particular Joe Fresh lip gloss, because for under $10 you get a high-quality lip gloss including an easy application brush. Say goodbye to goopy fingers! And clear packaging is tres chic!

LuvZ: Dermalogica.  Always a great go-to brand for all skin-types, but it’s only available through an aesthetician, so  you will always get the guidance you need when making your purchase.  Their gentle exfoliating cream is a great product because it non-abrasive.  It lifts the dead and flaky skin without damaging underneath.  I promise it will keep your skin smooth this winter.

LuvZ: These stylish paper wrapped pencils.  No writer’s block with one of these in hand, they come in dozens of different inspiring patterns and colours. Buy them at The Paper Place, the perfect spot to grab a last minute gift.  Knock off the gift, the card, and the paper all in one place!

LuvZ: Pink Lypsil. Cherry chapstick anyone? This is a lip-saver and a life-saver! Lypsil will donate to breast cancer research with every pink ribbon Lypsil purchase. This is the real deal that will keep your kissers smoochable.

LuvZ: Drinking water that is bottled at the source.  Why?  Because when you bottle the water at the source, you get all of the great minerals that come from the earth.  Fiji water actually contains silica, which is great for healthy hair and nails, as well as naturally occurring fluoride, calcium, and magnesium.
